Kyler Abernathy, Coach

Coach Kyler is in his 2nd year here as a coach. Kyler is a United States Air Force veteran. He spent 4 years living overseas and played on the USAF European league volleyball team. He has competed in multiple sports and continues to play competitive volleyball. A graduate of Alexander Central, currently employed at Bunker Hill High school as an EC teacher aid and as the assistant volleyball coach.

As a coach Kyler pushes to not only build his players up as athletes, but to help build their character as well. Using skills learned as a leader in the USAF to help build values such as integrity first, team before self, and excellence in all we do.

My name is Brooke Falowski. I’m 18 years old and coach the 14’s Free team at Select.  I have played volleyball since I was nine years old and have played for Select for many years.  I am a setter and played at Bunker Hill High School and Catawba Valley Community College.  This is my first year coaching and I am very excited!





Chloe Falowski, Coach

Hey everyone, my name is Chloe Falowski.  This season I will be coaching the 14’s Free team.  This is my first year coaching, and I am so excited!  I started playing volleyball when I was nine.  I tried out for Select when I was eleven and played for the club for many years.  I played all four years on the Varsity Volleyball team for Bunker Hill High School.  I have played every position except setter, but mainly specialized as a passer.  I also played Spring ball this past semester for Catawba Valley Community College.  I look forward to a great season!

Matt McMinn, Assistant Coach

Matt is a 2004 graduate of Western Carolina University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work.  There, Matt was a scholarship athlete for the Men’s Track & Field team as a discus and hammer thrower, as well as helping start the Men’s Volleyball Club Team where he was a middle hitter.

in 2016, Matt assisted the Tri City Christian High School Varsity team in Conover, NC to a second place finish in the State Championship.  In 2019, Matt assisted the Newton-Conover High School Varsity team where they had a year over year improvement through his guidance.

Matt also was the head coach for the 15’s and 16’s team for Hickory Havoc starting in 2016.  There, focus was based on a positive culture for the team cohesion, as well as creating a well rounded player who could play multiple positions at a high level.  His team won many tournaments and awards during his two seasons there.

Matt’s coaching philosophy is based on:

* Don’t cheat yourself or your team 

* Leave better than when you walked in

Matt looks forward to starting his journey with Carolina Select for the 2020 season.  Matt is married to Katie, has a daughter named Kerri’s, a son named Cooper, and a baby on the way in January 2020!  Kerri’s is active on the Select 12 year old team and also plays softball.  Cooper stays active with his baseball team.

Shadae Perry, Coach

My name is Shadae Perry from Columbia, SC.  I Graduated from Clark Atlanta University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing.  I started playing volleyball in the 6th grade as well as club volleyball.  I enjoy volleyball, it is one of my passions that always excites me whenever I play or simply just watching a game.  I am excited to coach and help players understand fundamental skills that will help them on and off the court!

Natalie Speagle, Coach

Coach Natalie Speagle enters her sixth year as a Carolina Select volleyball coach. She is a 2011 college graduate from University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she played volleyball for two years. She has been a part of local athletics for over ten years. As a high school standout volleyball player at Fred T Foard high school she was apart of two state championship volleyball teams. She also played softball.

During her tenure with the Carolina Select Volleyball Club, Natalie was the 13U assistant coach in 2012 and has been a head coach every year since.

Natalie is GMS Impact and USA Volleyball Referee certified. She believes volleyball fosters skills for life such as integrity, teamwork, and hard work. As a coach Natalie hopes to not only prepare her team for a great season but also for a successful life. She is excited for the new season!

Chris Winkler, Coach

Coach Chris Winkler enters his 8tg year with Carolina Select Volleyball Club, leading a 14U team.  Winkler is a 1996 graduate of Appalachian State University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education.  Winkler is an Impact Certified Gold Medal Square (GMS) coach.

Winkler is also the Head Volleyball Coach for Northview Middle School.  Winkler has been involved with volleyball since his playing days (club level) in college as a setter.  He has coached on the High School, Middle School and club levels.

Coach Winkler started with CSVC with a U12 team in 2012, and has coached U13, U14, U15 and U16 teams for Carolina Select.  Coach Winkler has compiled a 445-108 record with his Select teams.  The last three years his teams have competed at AAU Nationals where they have gone 27-8 in Club Division.  

Coach Winkler has a coaching philosophy based on the following keys; with a focus on increasing self-confidence in each player through skill growth and team success…

Coach Winkler is happily married to Lynn Winkler.  They have a son, Peyton Winkler, who will graduate from Hickory High and is a standout goalkeeper.
